You’re not the only one who can get a bit overheated when June rolls around. Your car could also be at risk for overheating and leaving you stranded on your summer road trip. To keep this unwelcome fate from befalling your beloved ride, follow these tips.

  1. Coolant – The most common cause for car overheatings has to do with coolant. Whether it be not enough, stale, or a bad mix, coolant issues can be a pain. To avoid running into this problem, always check your coolant before you embark on any long drive and add it to your checklist every time you check your oil.
  2. Drive Belt – This fun part is what drives the cooling systems in your engine. On average they last 80,000-100,000 miles, so if yours is approaching that milestone, have it checked out at your local service shop.
  3. Radiator – Check there’s no debris blocking your intake and make sure the cap is holding pressure. If both of these things check out, you and your radiator are good to go!

Taking these few steps to check your car out before a road trip can help you avoid a meltdown, of both the engine and emotional varieties.

What Insurance Companies Don’t Want You to Know After a Crash

When you first bought car insurance, the agent probably made it sound simple: if you’re in an accident, you’ll get compensation by making a call or filing a claim online.
