Summer is about fun in the sun, time with friends and family and adventure. To not let your summer get ruined, follow some of these summer driving safety tips.

Plan ahead

Before embarking on a summer road trip, plan a safe route to take in order to avoid heavy traffic and unwanted stress. Make sure to include pit stops in order to rest, switch drivers, use the restroom, and get gas.

Check it, before you wreck it

Prior to hopping in your car to get on the road, check your vehicle to make sure everything is in tip-top shape for driving. Make sure you tire pressure is good, check your oil, and ensure everything on your vehicle is running properly.

Keep passengers safe

Be sure to travel with at least one other person in order to split up the driving and avoid tiring yourself out. Also, be sure your travel buddy is there to help you. Even if they’re riding shotgun, it’s a good idea to make sure they stay awake too in order to help keep you focused and help with directions. It is important to make sure all passengers are safe when riding in your vehicle, make sure everyone has a proper seatbelt or car seat. Another tip: keep your passengers entertained by making sure they have books, snacks, and their own source of music (with headphones) in order to help limit the distraction for you.

On the road

Make sure you are well rested and focused on the road when driving. Anticipate traffic jams and try to incorporate extra time in your ETA in order to reduce frustration and road rage. Have a passenger work the GPS so that you can keep both hands on the wheel and whatever you do, do not use your phone while driving!

Follow these tips to keep you and your friends and family safe on the road this summer. Take the necessary precautions to avoid accidents and minimize your risk and to stay safe.
