Over-Served, $18 Million Verdict in Texas
We recently learned of an $18 million verdict in Texas against a bar that over-served alcohol to a young man, who then got in his car and killed another motorist. According to reports, both men died in the head-on collision.
In Virginia, there is a law that prevents individuals from holding a bartender or establishment responsible for over-serving. This includes drunk drivers who chose to go out and cause havoc on the roadway. Plaintiffs’ lawyers have been unsuccessfully fighting to repeal this law for quite a while. While other states allow it, when a situation calls for it, it can result in big wins.
Whether you are teaching your new teenage driver about road safety, are a regular commuter, or a truck driver yourself – remember, drunk driving accidents are 100% preventable. Be smart.
